Aelita is one of the mute film era’s forgotten pearls. The pioneer of sci-fi films, a story of the queen of Mars, was filmed in CCCP in 1924, long before Metropolis by Fritz Lang. The firm grip of state control on the cinematic art enabled a massive budget, making film’s massive settings and the mass scenes in Mars startling to this day. The script, based on Aleksei Tolstoi’s novel, got the censorship authorities on their tows which lead to some surprising plot twists in the film.
By playing futuristic music with self-made instruments, Cleaning Woman accompanies the film to this century. The band uses self-made percussions, string, and rhythm instruments creating a melodic and hypnotic accompaniment for the events of the film. Cleaning Woman by Aelita made its premiere in 2003.
Risto Puurunen (CW01), self-made string instruments.
Timo Kinnunen (CW03), self-made percussions.
Tero Vänttinen (CW04) self-made percussions and string instruments.
