Waves of Creativity

An international residency project for Ukrainian photographic artists

Waves of Creativity is an international residency project that brings together Ukrainian photographic artists and arts organisations from Finland, Estonia, Germany and Ukraine.

The project supports artistic practice, professional continuity and the development of international networks amid the war. The residency programme takes place in Finland, Estonia and Germany from May to September 2026, and works created during the project will be presented in Tallinn in October 2026.

The project is funded by the Creative Europe programme.

Residency Programme

Through an open call, eleven Ukrainian photographic artists were selected for the programme. The participating artists have worked as photographers on the front lines or documented the war and its impacts in other ways.

The residencies provide time and space for the artists to focus on their own artistic practice, while offering opportunities to explore local art scenes and build new professional connections.

In addition to independent artistic work, the programme includes studio visits, meetings with artists, public events, mentoring and regular psychological support.

Waves of Creativity at Haihatus

Haihatus Art Center serves as the project’s Finnish partner and is one of the organisations hosting the residency programme.

In Joutsa, the artists work as part of Haihatus’s multidisciplinary and international community. Alongside their own artistic practice, the residency periods include meetings, visits and opportunities to become acquainted with the Finnish arts and cultural scene.

Information about events and artist introductions related to the project will be shared separately through Haihatus’s current news and social media channels.
