Have you always wanted to try graffiti painting?
Join us for a spray-painting workshop and create a collaborative artwork under the guidance of visual artist Jaakko Vuorenmäki!
The workshop is suitable for both beginners and more experienced participants, and no previous experience is required. Juice and soft drinks will be provided for all participants.
Jaakko Vuorenmäki is a visual artist from Lahti whose work explores urban spaces, their visual layers, and the traces left by time. He is especially known for artworks inspired by the urban environment and for his collaborative community art projects. He has led numerous painting workshops across Finland.
Throughout the summer, Haihatus Art Center’s community art project has brought together artists and local residents to create art for shared public spaces. One of the highlights of the project is a Joutsa-themed mural in the Pertunmaa underpass. Now it’s time to celebrate the project’s finale with a community workshop!
Saturday, 15 August, from 11:00 a.m. (drop in anytime – while paint and enthusiasm last!)

Haihatus Art Center and Residency, located in Joutsa, Finland, is an inspiring and relaxed international art hub. Haihatus is a great, communal place where art, in all of its forms, is the driving force.
During the summer, art exhibitions, music concerts, workshops, performances, and KITA—Finland’s only gallery dedicated to kinetic art—attract visitors from both Finland and abroad.
In the winter, you can enjoy cozy music evenings and intimate art exhibitions. Additionally, the residency program is a key focus during this season, offering a unique opportunity for artists and arts students from all disciplines.
For details on dates and opening hours, please visit our Exhibitions and Events sections.
The Highlight of the Year
Haihatus hosts a variety of contemporary art exhibitions each year. The exhibition seasons culminate in a large group exhibition held during the summer, showcasing a fascinating array of works by both Finnish and international contemporary and ITE (Outsider) artists.
Additionally, the winter season features smaller-scale exhibitions.
The years at Haihatus culminate in a major summer exhibition of contemporary art, bringing together works from artists with diverse practices and backgrounds. The art offerings consist of various exhibition sections located within Haihatus’ charming grounds, including its galleries and sculpture park, as well as at its second venue, KITA Gallery—the only gallery in Finland specializing in kinetic art.
In addition to the summer exhibition, Haihatus’s versatile spaces host smaller exhibitions, featuring works by resident artists, for example.
Year-round
Haihatus organizes and coordinates various events and cultural projects year-round.

Collaboration with the local reception center (VOK) and residents of the Haihatus artist residency has led to new, free events open to all, such as the Joutsa-Slavic Maslenitsa Spring Festival and artist-led art workshops during the residency season from September to April.
You can find more information about upcoming workshops and festivals in the News section of this page and on Haihatus’ Facebook page.
Runs annually from September to April
We welcome new artists and arts students from all art disciplines to join our residence programme!
Haihatus’ international artist residency is a relaxed working residency composed of three locally historically significant buildings in Central Finland.
Located in the center of Joutsan, it offers excellent transport connections: the bus stop is within walking distance, with a journey from Helsinki to Haihatus taking just over 2 hours and less than an hour to Jyväskylä.
The residency is open to artists and art students from all disciplines. Applications can be submitted individually, in pairs, or as part of a group.
The main application period is in March, but we also accept applications for available spots randomly throughout the residency season.
Keep an eye on Haihatus’ Facebook page for announcements regarding available spots.

GOOD Based on 210 reviews Posted on Google Minerva PelliTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Posted on Google Aki BrusilaTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Autolle hyvä parkkipaikka. Hyvin tilaa kulkea vaikka oli paljon porukkaa. Hauskoja taiteita.Posted on Google emilia lehmonenTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Harvoin on yhtä tervetullut lasten kanssa taide keskukseen🥰 niin huikea paikka❤️❤️ ehdottomasti kannattaa tulla pidemmänkin matkan takaa. Ja siellä voi myös yöpyä 🤩Posted on Google AnnaMaija NieminenTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Täydellinen paikka viettää kesäpäivää taiteen parissa. Lapsille on loputtomasti tutkittavaa pihapiirissä - päivä kuluu huomaamatta 😊 Kannattaa käydä KITA:ssa samalla.

Best experience of summer!Lähetetty Tripadvisor -sivustolla Miku WVahvistettu Interesting exhibitions A lot of outdoor exhibitions in addition to the houses and it wasn't crowded so it was easy to keep our distance or wait for our turn in some places.Lähetetty Tripadvisor -sivustolla TeWeVahvistettu Quite nice Surprisingly interesting actually. We didn’t have very high expectations but were positively surprised. Some very interesting pieces and we especially liked the mirror house standing in the middle of a field.Lähetetty Tripadvisor -sivustolla juan kasariVahvistettu Uudistunut Uudistunut Haihatus jatkaa raikkaammalla otteella.
The foundation of our activities is the association Haihatuksen Henki ry. Its operations are implemented by a committed group of arts and cultural professionals.
