Summer Exhibition: Rhizome (Rihmasto)

Rhizome Spreads into Haihatus 19 June – 30 August 2026

The 27th summer exhibition at Haihatus is an intuitive summer adventure unfolding in the renewed courtyard of the art centre. The works have been selected by Haihatus’ artistic team, who invited artists interested in the rhizome theme both from their networks and through an open call.

The exhibition features works by twenty artists and artist groups based in Finland. Alongside the familiar ITE (self-taught) artworks in the garden area, the exhibition also includes a piece from The Art Without Transportation project: a sculpture by Canadian artist Jude Griebel, realized locally by hand.

Rhizome invites visitors to experience and participate. The works are multisensory and interactive: they may grow and change in response to the audience, nature, and the environment. The exhibition brings together art, science, and collective practices, engaging with themes of sustainability transition.

Visitors can move intuitively from one place to another, as the works spread across the gallery house, garden, and surrounding buildings. Installations and participatory works in particular invite experiencing the space with the whole body.
Visitors can stay overnight at Haihatus Art Camping, in a hammock or a tent. During the art visit, one can enjoy the offerings of the vegan summer café under a sunshade. The museum shop’s exhibition-sale offers contemporary art to take home, alongside unique jewellery and clothing.

Workshops, concerts, and guided tours are organized alongside the summer exhibition for both individuals and groups. For example, collage, spray painting, and philosophy workshops are included in the exhibition ticket.

A family-friendly Midsummer festival will be held on 19–20 June 2026, featuring live music, dancing, grilling, sauna, and a traditional Midsummer bonfire.

The summer exhibition is open 19 June – 30 August 2026, Tue–Sun, 11 am–6 pm.
