Haihatus Artist Residency

 

Haihatus Art Center is an international art residence and creative space and gallery, located in Joutsa, Central Finland, in three historical buildings with a big garden and outdoor sculpture park. 

 

The Haihatus team organises events, exhibitions, and workshops that involve artists, the local community, and cultural professionals.

 

The residency period typically runs from September to April. 

 

During the summer season, Haihatus presents an annually changing contemporary art exhibition, accompanied by Art Camping, a museum shop, and a vegan summer café.

WORK SPACES

Shared working spaces offer opportunities for artists of various disciplines. 

The studios are best suited for visual and performing arts and also support woodworking and larger-scale construction projects. 

Residents have access to extensive storage areas and shared tools, an electronic art workstation, a separate AV workspace with a computer and software, and textile art facilities including three sewing machines and tools and materials for textile work.

Accommodation

We have 4 single rooms and 2 double rooms. 

Every room also has a kitchenette; there’s a fridge and microwave on the accommodation level. Fully equipped communal kitchen and cooking basics.

Shared bathrooms on every floor. Showers on the main floor, Sauna in the basement.

The residency building has a total floor area of 800 m² and typically accommodates three to six residents working on site at a time.

  • Private rooms are situated on their own upper floor of the house, featuring a small kitchenette in each room.

  • Kicksleds and skies for wintertime.
  • A cat, Räisänen, an orginal Haihatus inhabitat. She lives in the main floor, no accsess to the private rooms.

  • Rides to / from the bus stop and to grocery store can be arranged by request.

Payment, Deposit and refund policies

The confirmation fee is 100 Euros for 1 person, and 200 Euros for 2 people sharing a room.  The rest of the payment is to be payed 60 days before your residency starts. In case  an artist doesn’t pay for the staying in time, the residency keeps the right to suggest the place to another artist.

Start of the residency counts as the 1st day of the 1st month of your staying, even if the actual  arrival and deparature dates can vary.

Refund policies

If an artist notifies the residency about any changes in their plans to attend the residency:

  • 30 – 60 days in advance – 50% refund
  • Less than 30 days – no refund

Cases for full refund regardless the time the artist notifies the residency:

  • Death of close ones
  • Severe illness of the artist

In other force majeure cases we propose to an artist to reschedule the residency according to the residency availability.
