What: A Mycelium-themed summer exhibition at the gallery building of Haihatus Art Center
Where: Joutsa, Finland – 200 km north of Helsinki, 70 km south of Jyväskylä, along Highway 4

Installation period: April 7 – June 11, 2026
The theme is mycelium and the new life of art.
Different manifestations of art, unusual connections, recycling, phenomena, symbioses.
New contexts for artworks. Storage spaces. Materiality and experiential qualities.
Mycelium and fungi as metaphors for the birth of art.
Harvest, collaboration, working groups, community.
Animals and more-than-human perspectives.
Healthy practices as part of being an artist.
The renewed life of materials.
Take part in the summer exhibition as one of the artists.
The work may be old or new; the working method is free.
We will select works that are accessible, safe, and suitable for audiences of all ages.
What we offer:
– Transportation of the artwork within Finland
– Assistance with installation
– Communications and promotion, including social media updates
– Photographs of the artwork
– Accommodation by agreement during installation and the opening
– Communal meals during workdays
– Artist’s fee for image use in accordance with Finnish law
If your work is site-specific or you wish to create a new piece, you may also propose a residency period prior to installation.
Residency fees follow the standard residency rates:
– €660/month for a single room (1 person)
– €990/month for a shared room (2 persons)
About Haihatus Art Center:
Haihatus is a non-profit cultural association based in Joutsa. During the winter it hosts an international artist residency, and in the summer it presents a highly regarded contemporary art exhibition. The organization is run mainly by volunteers, and the exhibition artists are selected by Haihatus’s six-member artistic working group. Haihatus holds an extensive collection of ITE (self-taught) art, and its events and exhibitions attract approximately 7,000 visitors annually. Haihatus.fi
